Text step

What it does#

A Text step outputs exactly the text you write, with any variables filled in. No AI model runs, so it's instant and free of AI credits.

Use it to:

• Reply with a fixed message at the end of a branch, such as a handoff notice or an opening-hours answer.
• Prepare text for later steps, such as a list of rules several LLM steps share.

Like every step, if it's the last one to run, its text is the reply the customer gets. Otherwise later steps read it as {{StepName}}.

Add a Text step#

   Add a step

   Click + Add agent where you want it, double-click the new step and choose Text in the type menu.

   Name it

   Give it a clear name, such as Handoff.

   Write the text

   Under Content, write the message in Text. Type @ to insert a variable.

Common mistakes#

• "Missing placeholders" error. A variable in the text doesn't exist when the Text step runs. Check the step name and that the step it reads runs earlier.
• You wanted the AI to write it. A Text step never changes your wording. Use an LLM step for replies that should adapt.
