Steps

Get Location

Ask for an address, typed or shared as a WhatsApp location, and save it as a full, checked address.

What it does#

Get Location asks for an address and waits for the answer. The customer can type an address or share a location from WhatsApp. Officely looks the address up on Google Maps and saves the full address under the step name.

Use it for delivery addresses, home visits, or the nearest branch.

The Get Location step

Add a Get Location step#

  1. 1

Drag Get Location onto the canvas

It's under Flow in the Steps panel on the left. Click it to open Step settings.

  2. 2

    Name the step

Click the name at the top of the panel (it starts as location1), for example deliveryAddress. Use letters and numbers only.

  3. 3

    Write the question

Under Message, keep or edit the example: Please provide a full address if available. If not, you may also send a Location.

  4. 4

    Connect it

Connect the previous step into this one and drag from its dot to the next step. The Phone preview tab shows Waits for a location.

Example#

A restaurant asks where to deliver:

  1. Get Location

    deliveryAddress: Where should we deliver?

  2. Options

    We'll deliver to {{@deliveryAddress}}. Correct?

The checked address is repeated back to the customer.

On WhatsApp the customer types Dizengoff 50 Tel Aviv, or taps the attachment icon, chooses Location and sends their current location. On your website they type the address or share their location from the chat.

{{@deliveryAddress}} then holds the full address as Google Maps writes it, with street, city and country.

How the answer is checked#

  • An address Google Maps can find is accepted, and saved in Google's full format.
  • A shared location is accepted and turned into an address.
  • An answer made only of digits, or an address Google can't find, is rejected.
  • If the address lookup is unavailable for a moment, the answer is accepted as typed, so customers never get stuck.

A rejected answer gets a short reply in your bot's language, The address is invalid, try again, and the customer stays on this step. They can also type back to return to the previous question.

Tips#

  • Ask for the street, number and city. "Herzl 10" alone may match a different city.
  • Confirm before you act on it. Repeat {{@deliveryAddress}} back in an Options or Buttons step with Correct / Change.
  • Need a map pin, not an address? That's Send Location, which sends your location to the customer.
  • The step shows "This step isn't ready yet". Connect a step into this one and connect it to the next step.
