Steps

Email

Ask for an email address, check that it looks valid, and save it for confirmations and your CRM.

What it does#

Email asks for an email address and waits for a valid one. If the reply doesn't look like an email address, the customer is asked again. A valid address is saved under the step name.

The Email step

Add an Email step#

  1. 1

    Drag Email onto the canvas

It's under Flow in the Steps panel on the left. Click it to open Step settings.

  2. 2

    Name the step

Click the name at the top of the panel (it starts as mail1), for example email. Use letters and numbers only.

  3. 3

    Write the question

Under Message, replace the example text, such as What email should we send the confirmation to?

  4. 4

    Connect it

Connect the previous step into this one and drag from its dot to the next step. The Phone preview tab shows Waits for a valid email.

Example#

A restaurant sends booking confirmations by email:

  1. Email

email: Where should we send the confirmation?

  2. HTTP

POST {{@email}} to the booking system

  3. Send Message

    Done! Check {{@email}}

The email is checked, then sent to the booking system.

The customer replies dana@example.com and the chat moves on. It looks the same on WhatsApp and on your website.

How the answer is checked#

The reply must be one email address in the form name@domain.ending, for example dana@example.com or dana.levi+booking@mail.example.co.il. The check makes sure it looks right; it doesn't confirm the mailbox exists.

The customer sendsResult
dana@example.comAccepted
dana@exampleRejected: no ending such as .com
dana example.comRejected: no @
My email is dana@example.comRejected: only the address, nothing around it

A rejected reply gets a short message in your bot's language, The email entered is invalid, try again, and the customer stays on this step. Typing back returns to the previous question.

The address is saved exactly as the customer typed it. Use it later as {{@email}}.

Tips#

  • Ask for the email on its own. Replies like my email is ... are rejected, so a clear question helps: Please type your email address.
  • Repeat it back. Show {{@email}} in the next message so the customer can spot a typo, and offer a way to change it.
  • The step shows "This step isn't ready yet". Connect a step into this one and connect it to the next step.
